1. Purpose of the Study
Actual research project aims to promote the exchange and cooperation between Korea and Africa and facilitate win-win development by enhancing the national brand of the Republic of Korea in Africa and improving soft power by means of strengthening public foreign policy.
As for a middle range power, improvement of Korea`s soft power does not pre-suppose unilateral promotion or dissemination of national brand or one-time events or business PRs. The purpose and effect of sustainable public diplomacy can be achieved only when the needs and capabilities of local residents are reflected and the development potential is substantial.
This research project aims to contribute to academic development by means of leading in-depth and convergent academic research on Africa, focusing on politics society, economy, and culture.
Moreover, actual research explores a strategy to cover various actors such as government, local governments as well as private sector in terms of policy, as a subject of participation in public diplomacy.
Through extensive research and activities of Hanyang University's European African Research Institute it is expected that Korea-Africa exchange and cooperation will be strengthened and that Korea's mid to long term national competitiveness and public diplomacy shall be promoted in the global market.
