Manuscript Guidelines

1. Requirements for Submission

  • Authors should submit an electronic copy of their manuscript to africastudies.kr@gmail.com in either MS word pr hwp format. All contributions except when acknowledged by the editorial committee, should not be published elsewhere or be under consideration for publication in other journals or books. Significant findings that have already appeared(or will appear) elsewhere must be clearly identified.

2. Length of Manuscript

  • 1) The length of a manuscript should not exceed 6000-8000 words, inclusive of footnotes, tables, figures, and bibliography(Abstract and keywords are counted seperately). The book review should be written in 2000-2,500 words.
  • 2) In determining manuscript length in terms of the number A4 pages, the following default setting of the Hangul word processor serves as the basis.

3. Structure of Manuscript

  • 1) Cover Page
    • full article title and running title
    • each author’s full name and institutional affiliation(s)
    • acknowledgements (with funding information)
    • total word count (including notes and references)
    • corresponding author (name, address, phone, e-mail)
    • each author’s brief biographical sketch of 80 words or fewer
  • 2) Main document (Omit author information)
    • Title
    • Abstract (200 words)
    • Keywords (more than 5)
    • Body and Footnotes
    • Reference
  • 3) Tables and Figures

    All tables and figures should placed within text and in appropriate positions using the numbering style in the following example: <Table 1>, <Figure 1>”. Sources should specified immediately below the table or figure.

  • 4) Footnotes and explanations related to the body should be clearly indicated by numbers in the text.

4. Ensuring Anonymity of Authors

In order to maintain the anonymity of the author during the examination, the author’s name is written only on a separate cover page, and no mention of the author's identity should be included anywhere in the text and footnote.

5. Details of the text description

  • The text begins article text on a new page headed by the title. No author identification.
  • For headings and sub-headings, the numbering system in the following example should be used: “I.”, “1.”, “1)”, and “(1)”.
  • References in the text or footnote. Examples of the citations in the text are:

    Lee (1974); Lee (1974: 30-35); (Lee, 1974: 30-35); (Shilling and Mellor, 1998: 171)

    For more than three authors, use “et al.” (Meyer et al., 1997)

    List a series of citations in alphabetical order separated by semicolons. (Bourdieu, 1972: 10; 1977a: 24; 1977b: 30; Grusky, 2004: 12; Hauser, 1992: 788)
