2nd stage of research

Analysis of locality of the target country and business model through public diplomacy

Objective of the 2nd stage of research

  1. Conducting theoretical and practical foundation research, focused on locality (public diplomacy actors) for public diplomacy in Africa.
  2. Locality, public diplomacy, diplomatic environment analysis oriented on the areas of culture and tourism, system of education, and social organizations, which are necessary areas of African research.
  3. Development of domestic resources of public diplomacy and application to the African public diplomacy environment (propensity score matching)
  4. Establishment of Korean model of public diplomacy for African communities.
  5. Development of a platform to ensure mutual exchange and cooperation with Korean local government and cities of Africa.

Research structure of 2nd stage

  • 1) Index analysis and categorization of major local societies and research objects (urban/local governments) in Algeria, Nigeria, and Tanzania.

    1. Exploring and studying various data for selecting and categorizing cities subject to public diplomacy.
    2. A comparative research for in-depth analysis of urban/local governments of localities.
  • 2) In-depth research and establishment of a foundation of information system for each area such as the culture and tourism, social capital, and education system of the local society/city.

    1. In-depth research by area on local society/city and on-site (field research) on local society.
    2. A survey of the public diplomatic environment such as the needs and supply of human and material resources in the local society/city, characteristics and capabilities, and potential.
  • 3) Analysis of South Korea`s public diplomacy resources and capabilities

    1. Domestic level survey of public diplomacy resources of Korea
    2. Africa exchange centered on local government
    3. Seeking ways to identify and utilize special resources in the public sector (local government), private enterprises (businesses), civic groups, educational institutions, etc.
  • 3) Development of networking platform of public diplomacy for Africa

    1. Development of theoretical and practical network bringing the needs of Africa
    2. Development of networking platform of public diplomacy for Africa which can improve Korea's short-term foreign policy.
    3. Improving South Korea's soft power through enhancement of the effectiveness, normativity, and sustainability of public diplomacy related cooperation projects.
    4. Reviewing the possibility of expansion and establishment of feedback system to improve the completeness of public diplomacy.

  • Key subject 5Development of Networking Platform for Public Diplomacy in Africa

    1. Establishment of an information system through processing and reconstruction of information related to public diplomacy in the target areas (city).
    2. The stage of securing the legitimacy of the local approach strategy and modifying/supplementing the African information system.
    3. Development of a networking platform for public diplomacy in Africa (propensity score matching)
    4. Continuous observation and expansion of networking platform of public diplomacy.
    5. Establishment of theoretical and practical networking platform for organic and overall mobilization and use of resources and capabilities at the lower level of the country.
